Many of our group participated in a hands on day in the field.  Keith Councell had set up many examples of problem hives and encouraged participants to indentify problems and he fielded questions regarding ways to avoid and remedy the problems.  We were able to find queens and observe eggs.  Keith went beyond basics by demonstrating queen rearing techniques, clipping, marking, etc..   It was a valuable experience in beekeeping.  The training was from 8:00 a.m. to well after noon... a great 4 hours of learning.

On Friday, 5-15-09 a few of us were at Keith's honey house where he taught the main elements of honey harvesting (selecting capped frames, uncapping, extracting, etc.).  The Fort Myers News-Press was there filming, photographing, and interviewing those present for an article to appear in the newspaper on Wednesday, 5-20-09.
